When thinking about a good time at the lake it is common to dwell only on the activity that takes place on the water. This is especially true of Caney Lake, home of many of the top lunkers ever caught in the state of Louisiana and a great place to swim, ski or just enjoy a casual boat ride.
What if you don’t own a boat? There is also the Jimmie Davis State Park that has available campgrounds and cabins for rent or the beach and you can go to but often times space is limited and the area is crowded.
What if all you are wanting to do is sit back in an uncrowded and relaxing setting and enjoy the view? Maybe enjoy a picnic with the family?
This can be attained, simply by paying a visit to the Pavilion located at the end of Ebenezer Road and immediately beside the public boat launch. According to Jackson Parish Watershed Commission board member Gary Joynor, this is a wonderful feature of the lake that is unsung and underappreciated.
“We rarely see anyone using the pavilion and want to get the word out, just in case you didn’t know, it’s for everyone to enjoy,” said Joynor. “It’s first come first serve. No reservations are required and has two really nice picnic tables under cover and an amazing view of the lake. The sunset is always as beautiful a sight as you can see.”
