Quitman, Weston and Saline Junior High began their 2022 fall softball season on Tuesday with a round robin tournament between the three at Quitman High School’s softball field. It was a succesful start to the season for the host Junior Wolverines as they beat both Saline and Weston in three innings by identical 11-0 scores. including no-hitting Weston in the finale. Saline beat Weston 8-6 in the other game.
Quitman 11 Saline 0: Brenna Lamkin got the win in the season opener for Quitman by holding Saline to just two hits. Offensively QJH was led by two hits and 2 RBI from Briley Bowers and two runs scored by London Burks. Anna Leach reached base twice on a hit and a walk, scored a run and knocked one in while Halle Kate Pullig added a triple, RBI and run scored. Jennalee Hall got a hit, scored and knocked a run in while Kinsley Ponder got a hit and scored. Emma Toms, Lamkin, Lanee Cheatwood and Morgan Cheatwood also scored.
Saline 8 Weston 6: Saline evened their record in the second game of the round robin by outlasting Weston in the game that was called after three innings due to time. Ally Fine was the winner for Saline. No batting stats for either team was available.
Quitman 11 Weston 0: Brenna Lamkin and Briley Bowers combined for a no-hitter and Quitman took advantage of nine walks to win the 2 1/2 inning contest. Breelyn Boone scored twice and had two RBI, while Morgan Cheatwood and Anna Leach, who walked three times and stole three bases, also scored two runs each. Lamkin added a double and along with Bowers, Lanee Cheatwood amd Halle Kate Pullig scored a run.
