JHHS grad Kelton Moss makes final appearance for UTEP against La Tech

Kelton Moss is coming home. Well, sort of…. Actually, the 2017 Jonesboro-Hodge High School graduate will be in Ruston this Saturday, October 8th, where he will suit up for the University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP) one final time to take on Louisiana Tech University.  Game time is set for 6:00pm at Joe Aillet Stadium.

UTEP enters the Conference USA tilt with a 3-3 after starting the season with a 1-3 record before shocking Boise State 27-10 and winning their conference opener by outlasting Charlotte 41-35. Louisiana Tech begins CUSA play at 1-3 following losses to Missouri, Clemson and South Alabama and beating Stephen F. Austin University.

The All-State representative from JHHS has made a tremendous impact as a defensive tackle for UTEP helping the Miners to their first winning season and a bowl appearance since 2014 last year. Moss started at defensive tackle in all 12 games and recorded 23 tackles, one pass breakup, one quarterback hurry and a fumble recovery. During the 2020 season, Moss was credited with 20 tackles, three tackles for losses, a sack and a quarterback hurry.

Before accepting the scholarship offer from UTEP, Moss attended Kilgore College, where he played from 2018-2020, recording 111 tackles, nine tackles for loss, eight sacks, six forced fumbles and had an interception.

In an article published by The Prospector on September 6th, Moss recalled how he got startted playing football as a kid in Jonesboro.

“Growing up as a kid, I would play [football] with my friends,” recalled Moss. “Then when I got in middle school, I got introduced to organized football and fell in love with it.”

What drives him to train hard for competition this year and hopefully a future as an NFL player?

“Just knowing I can change my family situation is the main thng,” said Moss. “By coming out here each and every day, trying to get better, I hope I can go to the league and help my family out.”
