QJH Softball wins four in two days to up winning streak to 11 straight

It was a tiring two days for the Quitman Junior High softball team. Tiring but satisfying. That is because after playing four times in two days that included a LONG road trip, the Lady Wolverines wrapped up the gauntlet of games just like they began them – still undefeated!

On Monday, QJH loaded up on a school bus and took a sure enough, good old fashioned, road trip to southwest Louisiana. Once arriving they played back to back games against Hicks and Fairview, winning by scored of 11-1 and 4-0. 

On Tuesday, they were right back at it again to play two more. Fortunately this time they were in the friendly confines of their own park where they beat Choudrant 9-0 and Montgomery 7-1in the Round Robin they hosted. 

The four wins ran Quitman’s season opening winning streak to eleven straight. Quitman has not only won every game they have played this season but have done so in dominating fashion. In 40 total innings played QJH has reached base 138 times on 65 hits and 73 free passes while giving up only five runs total and four earned runs, including shutting out 8 of the 11 opponents they have faced.  

Quitman 11 Hicks 1: QJH pounded out 11 hits, including five for extra bases and scored in all five innings posting three each in the first, third and fourth frames. Anna Leach led the hit parade with three hits, including a double while also scoring twice, knocking in two and stealing a base. Hallie Kate Pullig smashed a home run and a triple, while Briley Bowers and Lanee Cheatwood both three baggers as well, as each had two hits and two RBI.  Zoee Williams got a hit and knocked in a pair. Kinsley Ponder also got a hit, scored and got an RBI while Breelyn Boone scored. London Burks and Morgan Cheatwood stole a base. Brenna Lamkin pitched 4.1 innings to pick up the complete game win and helped her cause with by walking twice and scoring a run. 

Quitman 4 Fairview 0: It was  the “Bower Power Hour” in game two. Bowers got QJH’s only two hits, scored a run and stole a base to lead the offense while in the circle struck out six, gave up two hits and first a shutout. Anna Leach and Sophia Kliebert scored a run and stole a base, while Lanee Cheatwood scored and Breelyn Boone and Zoee Williams swiped a bag each. Averi Hasley and Brenna Lamkin chipped in by knocking in a run each. 

Quitman 9 Choudrant 0:  Morgan Cheatwood got two hits including a triple and knocked in three runs and Zoee Cheatwood went 2/2 with 2 RBI as QJH scored in each of the four innings to crush Choudrant. Brenna Lamkin picked up her sixth win of the season by allowing only three hits and striking out seven. Briley Bowers, who also stole a base, and Hallie Kate Pullig also got a hit each and scored twice. Kinsley Ponder singled, stole a base and scored while Anna Leach and Lanee Cheatwood all added a run. London Burks added two stolen bases. 

Quitman 7 Montgomery 1: Briley Bowers, who also got a hit, scored and knocked in a run, allowed a first inning run and then slammed the door shut. Hallie Kate Pullig hit a two run blast for her 3rd home run and 10th and 11th RBI of the year to lead the team in both categories. Anna Leach, Kinsley Ponder, Brenna Lamkin and Breelyn Boone all scored a run while Morgan Cheatwood and Jennalee Hall got an RBI each. London Burks alsoscored a run and swiped two bases to up her team leading total to ten.
