Caney Lake produces record catch at Bass Nation “Hawgfest”

Caney Lake is known for producing many of the biggest bass ever caught in the state of Louisiana. The fishery in Jackson Parish cemented it’s reputation this past weekend when the Bossier Parish High School team of Mason McCormick and Alexis Virgillito caught what appears to be the heaviest stringer ever caught in a high school fishing tournament. 

Competing in the Louisiana High School Bass Nation Youth Caney Lake “Hawgfest” on Saturday, March 19th, the pair landed five largemouth bass weighing an incredible 37.13 pounds led by a “Big Bass” of 9.22 pounds. Bossier Parish High School also took home the team trophy for weighing in a total of 66 lbs. with their top 3 teams.

Representing Jackson Parish out of the 184 two person teams from all over the state that entered the national qualifying tournament was Landin Chatham / Hagen Carter who fished as team Weston Bassmasters.
