THE GREATEST

Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. was the fighter’s given name. The public first knew him simply as Cassius Clay. He was later publicized as Muhammad Ali or ‘The Greatest.’

I guess all high achievers hope to be the greatest in their occupations.

The advertising firm of Kellogg’s came up with a great campaign for one of their cereals. They had Tony the Tiger on the Frosted Flakes cereal boxes with a sensation slogan.

“They’re gr-r-eat!”

What or who is truly great?

God set the record straight. Jesus would be great; He is THE GREATEST!

“And the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end (Luke 1:30-33 NASB).”

Jesus reigns over His Kingdom.

He is great. He is humble.

“Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, as He already existed in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but emptied Himself by taking the form of a bond-servant and being born in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death: death on a cross (Philippians 2:5-8 NASB).”
