
Bonita Cathey
June 8, 1949 – May 7, 2023
Services will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home for Bonita Moore Cathey, age 73, of Quitman, who entered into rest on Sunday, May 7, 2023.
Reverend Keith Thomas will officiate the services with interment to follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro will be in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held from 5:00PM until 8:00PM on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
Mrs. Cathey was born June 8, 1949. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Laris David Cathey, Jr.; her parents, Haywood Otis Moore and Melba Lucille Chelette Moore.
Survivors include one son, Casey Drew Cathey of Winnsboro; one daughter, Jessica Cathey Pastrana, and her husband Juan Carlos of Ruston; two grandchildren, Alysa Cathey Green, and her husband Seth of Castor; and Brett Alan Cathey of Ruston; one sister, Donna Moore Tucker, and husband Michael of Oklahoma.

Gene Hatton
May 19, 1949 – May 5, 2023
Clarence Gene Hatton, 73, passed away on May 5, 2023, in Ruston, Louisiana. He was born on May 19, 1949, in Jonesboro, Louisiana.
Gene graduated from Chatham High School and then attended Louisiana Tech University. After university, he joined the United State Army and served for 12 years. During his time in the army, he served in Thailand and also spent several years as a Staff Sergeant at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. After leaving military service, he found his calling as a police officer for the University Police Department at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. He worked there until his retirement in 2000. During those years, he was married and divorced twice but had no children.
In his free time, Gene enjoyed fishing, reading, and the occasional catfish buffet. He also enjoyed sitting and talking with his many friends and acquaintances in Chatham. Gene was a very good-hearted person and quick to offer his opinion on any subject.
Gene will be remembered by his surviving brother, Lloyd Glen Hatten, several nephews and cousins, and his many friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Baskin Hatton, his mother, Bertha Pardue Smith Hatton, his brother, Ormon Baskon Hatten, his sister, Vauda Fay Hatton, and his brother, Carl Ross Hatton.
A memorial service will be held at Zoar Methodist Church near Chatham, Louisiana on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 3:00PM with Bro. Floyd Smith officiating.
Sudie Waggoner
December 17, 1938 – May 6, 2023
Sudie Bell Waggoner passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023 in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She was 84 years old. Sudie was born on December 12, 1938 to Jeff Franks and Mamie (Lowring) Franks, near Chestnut, Louisiana.
Sudie loved cooking for her family, and they all loved eating what she prepared, especially her dumplings. She enjoyed talking on the telephone to her friends and family and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Sudie is survived by her son, Steve Waggoner, Sr. (Marie); daughter, Donna Waggoner; grandchildren, Stephanie Holley (Lane), Steve Waggoner, Jr., William Bailey, Daniel Bailey; nephew, Pat Franks; and numerous cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Ray Waggoner, Sr.; son, Robert Ray Waggoner, Jr.; brothers, Buddy Franks and Daygo Franks.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church on Morgan Quick Road near Chestnut, Louisiana from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 noon with Bro. Lyndell Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery near the church, under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
Serving the family as pallbearers will be David Dobson, Charlie Pullig, Heath Conley, Jeff Nelson, Craig Waggoner, and Lane Holley. Honorary Pallbearers are Dillon Hemperly, Benny Dobson, Kenny Tyler, Terry Chesser and Tommy Robbinette.
