The past couple of weeks has provided some unforgettable moments for the coaches, players and family members of the Jackson Parish 8U boys All-Star baseball team.
It all started with the “dandy dozen” going to Pineville, LA and winning six straight games to claim the District 8 “Coach Pitch” tournament championship in undefeated fashion. The group now have their sights set on a larger prize. On July 13-16, JP8U will travel to Metairie, LA to take part in the Dixie Youth State Championship.
The trip south to compete against the best the state has to offer will definitely be something that each player will always remember. Something else has taken place as well that will soon not be forgotten either, especially by the coaching staff and parents of the team members.
“The outpouring of support we have received is incredible,” said JP8U head coach Dusty Nomey. “It is truly a blessing to live in a place like Jackson Parish where people come together to help the kids like they do here.”
What Nomey is referring to is the many agencies, organizations and businesses in the parish that has stepped up to provide support for the team. Not only has the help been in a financial nature which certainly is appreciated as the combined cost of travel, lodging and meals is immense but the young guys have also received the kind of additional perks that in the long run is even more important than money.
This past week, JP8U had the privilege of being the guests of Jackson Parish Sheriff, Andy Brown, and Jackson Parish Clerk of Court, Laura Culpepper. As Nomey explained the benefits gained and experience of meeting these two local officials and their staff is immeasurable.
“These guys will never forget that these two important people of our parish took the time to meet with them and recognize them for their achievement,” reflected Nomey. “Some would say all they did was win a few baseball games, but these two and others have shown them that they appreciated the way they represented our parish and are behind them. They will always remember this and it will lead to them being supportive of others when they grow up. I know I speak for the parents of the guys on the team when I say thank you for being a positive influence on the guys which is what our coaching staff is trying to do as well.”
Assisting Nomey as coaches for the JP8U team is Lance Seymore, Jacob Norred and Railey Garrett. Team members are Cruz Nomey, Koplen Taylor, Andrew Seymore, Asher Norred, Brock Craighead, Kutter Blalock, Carter Kelly, Maddox Graham, Ridge Lewter, Jaxon Anderson, Remi Davis, and Landry Garrett.
