JP8U and 12U All Stars in Dixie Youth state baseball tourneys this weekend

One team is heading way down south. The other slightly north. One team is hoping that their pitchers don’t give up many hits. The other is hoping their pitchers get pummeled. Both are hoping to bring home the “bling” after all is said and done.

The two teams, Jackson Parish 8U and 12U boys All-Stars, are the final two of six teams from Jackson Parish to qualify for state championship play. Both will begin play in their respective Dixie Youth Baseball State Tournaments starting this coming Thursday and Friday, July 13-14.

The JP12U boys, who finished second in the District 8 tourney played at the Jackson Parish Recreation Sports Complex, only have to travel to Monroe, for state play.  They will open play on Field 3 of the Osterland Sports Complex at 5:00 pm on Friday, July 14 against DeQuincy.  A victory there sets up a second round matchup against the winner of Monroe and the District 4 runner-up, at 7:30 pm on Saturday on Field One. A loss pits the losers of the two games against each other in an elimination contest that will be played at 5:00 pm on Saturday on Field One.

State Tourney Preview

Sporting an impressive six-game winning streak, the District 8 championship team has the longest way to go of any Jackson Parish team to win a state title. JP8U will trek to Metairie, LA to compete in the “Coach Pitch” State Tournament from July 13th – 16th. As was the case in district play, they also have the most games that will need to be won to claim the title. JP8U will play Franklin, Winnsboro, and the 3rd place team from District 2, in two days of Pool E Play on Thursday and Friday, July 13-14.  Winners of the six separate pools and the top two second place teams from all the pools advance to play in an eight team, double elimination bracket that will be played on Saturday and Sunday, July 15-16.
