School Board hears presentation on alternative energy opportunities

A representative from Trane Manufacturing spoke to the Jackson Parish School Board about the benefits that would be realized by installing solar panels at the schools.  The information was presented at the regularly scheduled monthly meeting that was held on Tuesday morning at the Central Office of the Jackson Parish School District, located at 315 Pershing Hwy. in Jonesboro. 

In additional action, Dennis Clary, Calvin Waggoner (President), Paulette Belton, Gerry Mims, Mary Saulters and Wade McBride adopted the 2023-2024 Pupil Progression Plan. Robertson Produce was also approved as the supplier of Produce and Eggs for the 2023-2024 school year. Rick Barlow was absent.

In final action before the alternative energy opportunity presentation was heard the board agreed to accept various committee recommendations as follows.  

Approve for payment the following bills: General Fund, Federal Program, School Food Service, Sales Tax, Special Education, District Maintenance bills.

Approve the agreement with New Directions Educational Solutions in the amount of $27,000.00 for fourteen (14) days of Math Coaching and four (4) days of Professional Development at Jonesboro Hodge Elementary School and Jonesboro Hodge Middle School, to be paid from Redesign funds. (Pending LDOE approval)

Approve the agreement with New Directions Educational Solutions in the amount of $21,000.00 for fourteen (14) days of ELA Coaching (7 days per school) at Jonesboro Hodge Elementary School and Jonesboro Hodge Middle School, to be paid from Redesign funds. (Pending LDOE approval)

Accept low quote of $13,819.27 from Quill to purchase supplies for Weston High School, to be paid from Title I School Based funds.

Approve payment to Amplify in the amount of $96,000.00 to provide Core Knowledge Language Arts coaching for teachers in Grades K-2 at Jonesboro Hodge Elementary School, to be paid out of ESSER III Incentive funds.

Approve the renewal contract with Career Compass of Louisiana in the amount of $16,750.00 for 12th grade students at Jonesboro Hodge High School, Quitman High School and Weston High School, to be paid as follows: $15,000.00 from ESSER III Incentive funds, $1,750.00 from 2023-2024 Career and Technical funds.

Approve the subscription renewal with Renaissance in the amount of $29,117.21 for Accelerated Reader and Star Reading at all schools, to be paid from 2023-2024 General Fund.

Approve the payment of $25,201.00 to The Charlie Edwards Company, LLC for the renewal of the MTM unlimited data plan to support the communication devices for bus drivers, to be paid from Parish Wide District funds.

Accept low quote of $13,956.00 from Contract Paper Group, Inc. to purchase 400 cases of copy paper for all schools, to be paid from 2023-2024 General Fund.

Approve payment of $16,468.72 to La. Secretary of State for cost and expenses of Tax Renewal election, to be paid from General Fund.
