The Village of Hodge is a hotbed of activity this summer. Never before in recent history has so many construction projects been going on at the same time for such a wide range of business sectors.
Two of the projects involve the tearing down of a couple of the oldest structures in the village while the other brings a new addition to the Hodge landscape. Currently being razed is the former Bag Mill at Westrock and the old Hodge Shopping Center. Next door to what will be the location of the future Mercy Medical Center Complex, dirtwork and clearing of long standing trees is taking place so that the foundation of a new Dollar General store can be laid.
“It is something I never thought I would see,” said a local resident when speaking about driving down Hwy 167 in Hodge. “It is strange to be able to see all the way through the old shopping center and nothing where the Bag Mill used to be.”
While the current sights takes some getting used to, completion of each of the projects leads to a vision of a strong future for Hodge. With the addition of the new retail store, medical center and the soon to be completed multi million dollar Woodyard Project at Westrock it looks like wonderfully prosperous times are ahead.
