Jackson Parish native Keith Watkins tops among Chief’s of Police

For the second year in a row, Athens Police Chief Keith Watkins has won first place in the annual Chief’s of Police “Top Gun” Pistol Match. By winning the contest held in Marksville, LA against close to fifty Chief’s from all over the state, Watkins was presented with a Glock Pistol of his choice.

Growing up on the corner of 3rd Street and Cemetery Drive in Jonesboro, Watkins is the son of former Jackson Parish Sheriff, Lyman “Red” Watkins. For years he served in the capacity of a Jackson Parish Sheriff Deputy before moving to Athens where he and his wife Cindy reside today and he has served as Chief of Police since 2016.
