Forest Haven Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Jonesboro has been selected by the American Health Care Association to receive the 2023 Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award. The national honor was given for developing and demonstrating effective approaches that help improve performance and quality outcomes.
“I applaud Forest Haven Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their commitment to providing the highest quality of care and enhancing the lives of their residents. The Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award is an incredible recognition of their unwavering focus on delivering quality care for their residents,” said Mark Berger, executive director of the Louisiana Nursing Home Association (LNHA).
Forest Haven and sister Central Management facilities have earned 25 bronze quality awards and 20 silver quality awards since 2016. Of these awards, four bronze awards were earned in 2023. Since 2015, 105 Louisiana nursing facilities have earned a national quality award. Louisiana ranks eighth-best in the nation for the percentage of facilities earning a national quality award.
“Our residents are at the heart of everything we do and this national recognition is a testament to the exceptional care we provide in a homelike, safe environment,” said Forest Haven administrator Sandra Billings. “Earning this prestigious award is an affirmation of our team’s dedication to excellence and our pursuit of continuous quality improvement.”
A few new approaches in patient care that has been very effective is the introduction of pets and babies to the residents. Through a partnership with 4 Paws Rescue, as well as, using “Furry Friends” interactive dogs and cats, resident animal lovers now have the ability to rekindle the joy of having their “fur baby” around. Residents also got the opportunity to care for replica babies thanks to Lucy’s Healing Touch Babies.
“The response has been amazing. We hoped that this would inspire our residents but what we have witnessed is incredible,” said Billings. “We are seeing residents who hardly ever participated in our activities before now showing enthusiasm and wanting to have their pets and babies with them all the time.”
For some residents it may bring back memories of days gone by. For others it may be giving them another chance to feel responsibility. For all it has allowed them an avenue to show the love they still possess in their heart.
The award that was given may be bronze in composition but what the administration and staff at Forest Haven Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center is doing for their residents is solid gold!
