Report shows Jackson Parish competitive in teacher salary rankings

Teachers in Jackson Parish are not the highest paid in the state. They are not the lowest either. Actually, the average salary being earned of $49,283.00 per year is right around the middle of the pack, which is really quite remarkable considering the size of the school district compared with the rest of the state.

For the record, Jackson Parish ranked #36 of the 64 parishes shown. This is better than the majority of neighboring parishes, many who have a much higher student base.

“For being one of the smaller districts in the state I think we do a good job of staying competitive,” said Jackson Parish School Superintendent David Claxton. “We have quality teachers throughout our system and our School Board should be complimented on the work they have done to keep them.”

In comparison, Union Parish was at #39, Lincoln Parish checked in at #40, Winn Parish was at #53 and Caldwell Parish ranked 54th. Surprisingly, Bienville Parish was listed with the 8th highest average in teacher pay in the state with Red River Parish and DeSoto Parish holding down the top two spots.
