Series Special! Introducing the 2023 JPSHOF Inductees and Honorees

The Jackson Parish Sports Hall of Fame induction banquet will be held on October 7th at the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church in Jonesboro. Six former greats will be enshrined as the Class of 2023 with three more being recognized for Outstanding Achievement and Service. Also to be honored are the male and female Athletes of the Year for the 2022-23 school year from Jonesboro-Hodge, Weston and Quitman High Schools. Each honoree was chosen by select faculty and staff from each school.

Leading up to gala event the Jackson Parish Journal will feature each of the inductees and honorees. This Edition: 2022-23 Male and Female Athlete of the Year from Weston High School.

WHS 2022-23 Male Athlete of the Year
Mitchel Mathews


Controlling the paint for Weston High basketball team, Mathews led the Wolves in scoring at 11.2 points per game and six rebounds per contest to earn 2nd team designation to the 1B All-District team. Accumulated a 3.678 grade point average his senior season. Upon graduation began his work career at Jeld-Wen with possible plans of attending Louisiana Delta Community College in Welding or Industrial Maintenance.

WHS 2022-23 Female Athlete of the Year
Emma Kate McBride

One of the most recruited girls basketball player from Weston High School in recent years. McBride signed a scholarship to play for South Arkansas College in El Dorado after also receiving offers from Centenary College in Shreveport and Louisiana Christian University in Pineville. Averaged 13.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game to lead WHS to the District 1B championship. Named first team 1B All-District, selected to the LHSCA East All-Star team and earned LHSAA Composite All-Academic team honors in with a 4.33 grade point average. Had her senior softball season cut short to just three games due to a broken hand. Plans to major in business at “SouthArk” and hopes to pursue a career as a college basketball coach.
