In an effort to introduce the members of the 2023 JHHS football team, Jackson Parish Journal correspondent, Clay Williams, presents a question and answer interview series with Tiger players. Today – Alfonzo Calahan!

What’s your name, grade, number, and position?
Alfonzo Calahan, 12th, #11, Linebacker / Strong Safety
What are your hobbies outside of football?
I’ve been playing baseball, which is the first sport I’ve loved, for the school since my freshman year. I like to hang out with family and friends outside of school too.
What is your favorite pregame meal?
A grilled burger and some french fries always hits the spot.
What is your favorite subject in school?
Science and English I like a lot, specifically Biology because I grew up watching animal planet so much.
Who would you say is your biggest motivation in life?
My mother, because I want to make her proud and help her out in the future.

What is your best memory from playing football?
Getting to spend time with teammates on the road always makes for unforgettable experiences.
Any advice for younger players on the team or at the junior high?
Don’t do what everyone else is doing. Try to stand out and do what you like to do. Don’t be a follower.
What is something important a coach has taught you?
Just give it your best until the very end and take every game and play serious.
What are your expectations for the team this week in the homecoming game?
To get a win, and then go and get some good food after the game at the tailgate.
What are your plans after graduation?
Go to a 2-year college, learn more about engineering and welding, and then get to working.
Lastly, what are your goals for the rest of this season for yourself, and the team?
For the team, try to steadily improve and have a winning season. For myself, improve my
mentality and be a helpful teammate.
