Jonesboro Mayor J. “Spike” Harris issues statement following tragic events

Most of us are aware of the tragic incidents that occurred after the homecoming high school football game in our beloved town of Jonesboro. These events took place off of the high school campus and It deeply saddens me to hear about the loss of two lives and the critical injury of a young lady. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families affected by these devastating events.

As a concerned member of our community, I cannot stress enough the importance of coming together during such challenging times. It is crucial that we support one another and offer any assistance we can to those affected. Our town is known for its strength and resilience, and I have no doubt that together we can overcome this tragedy.

I believe it is essential for us to prioritize the safety and well-being of our community, especially our children. I kindly request that you, along with the relevant authorities, thoroughly investigate these incidents to ensure justice is served and to prevent future incidents.

In times like these, it is crucial to foster a sense of unity and support within our community. I would like to propose organizing a town-wide gathering or forum where concerned citizens can come together to discuss ways we can work towards a safer future for our town. By encouraging open dialogue and collaboration, we can find innovative solutions that address the root causes of such violence.

Please know that I am here to offer my assistance in any way possible. Whether it is through volunteering, participating in community programs, or supporting local initiatives, I am dedicated to helping make our town of Jonesboro a safer and more peaceful place to live.

Once again, my deepest sympathies go out to the families affected by this tragedy. Let us stand together as a community, supporting one another during this difficult time and working towards a brighter future.

Dr. J. Spike Harris, Mayor
