Hazel (Nunn) Huff
December 30, 1930 – February 22, 2024

huffHazel Juanita (Nunn) Huff of Quitman, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024 in Ruston. She was 93 years old. Hazel graduated from Quitman High School where she was a star basketball player. She loved going to “Trade Days” in Canton, Texas, and Bonnie and Clyde Trade Days near Arcadia. Hazel pulled a fifth-wheel trailer with her big diesel pick-up truck all around. She never met a stranger and when folks met her, they were instantly drawn to her. Hazel loved the Lord and her church, Highway Chapel Church of God.

Hazel is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Arnold; son, Shelby Green and wife Barbara; grandchildren, Madison Ivie, Zachary Green, Gavin Green; great grandchildren, Landon Green, Gage Green, Gideon Green. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Edward Nunn; mother, Bertha (Ponder) Nunn; brother, Lavel Nunn; sister, Alice (Nunn) Bottoms.

The funeral service was held on Saturday, February 23, 2024 in the chapel of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home with Bro. Stuart Toms officiating. Burial will followed in Antioch Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral home.

Serving The family as pallbearers were Zachary Green, Gavin Green, Todd Cooper, Rodger Council, Phillip Lawrence and Jordan Humphrey.

Nena Walker Ross
April 16, 1951 – February 20, 2024

rossNena Walker Ross of Quitman passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 in Ruston. She was 72 years old. Nena loved to craft. She also enjoyed playing the piano and played for her church, Beech Springs Baptist, for many years until her health kept her from continuing. Nena loved her family unconditionally and they loved her as well.

Nena is survived by her husband, John W. Ross; daughter, Ashley Ross; sister, Jatis Russell (Mike); brothers, Bobby Walker (Dianne) and Gene Walker; sister-in-law, Vickie Walker; brother-in-law, George Ross (Nedra); numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and a grand dog, Tinker.

She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Lee Walker; mother, Willie Mae (Jewell) Walker Brown; brother, Martin Walker; stepfather, Jim Brown; father-in-law, Chester Ross; mother-in-law, Cornelia Ross; brother-in-law, Charlie Ross; and sister-in-law, Jean Bright.

The funeral service was held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Beech Springs Baptist with Bro. Jason Womack officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home.

Serving the family as pallbearers were Scott Walker, Leo Walker, Chris Oliver, Mike Russell, Jr., Zack Page and Hunter Page.

Benton Doyle Young
July 27, 1938 – February 20, 2024

youngMr. Benton Doyle Young was born July 27, 1938 and went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 20, 2024. He was 85. Mr. Young proudly served his country in the Navy where he was stationed on the Caiman, Angler, and Spikefish submarines during his naval career. He was a commercial pilot and owned Ranger Aviation, and worked in the oil field where he helped design control panels for the rigs. 

Benton was also an entrepreneur. There wasn’t much he couldn’t do, so you may consider him a jack of all trades. He truly loved all the experiences he had during his lifetime, and he loved model trains.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian Pearl and Carneil Young, and a brother, Herman Neil Young.

Mr. Young is survived by his wife of 65 years, Valerie Young; two sons, Charles E. Young and Daniel L. Young (Karen); daughter, Jennifer Newman Morrison; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roger Young and Scott Young; two sisters, Devonia Young and Debra Young, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family.

The Celebration of Life service was held on Friday, February 23rd at the Jonesboro Assembly of God Church in Jonesboro with internment following at Bistineau Cemetery in Heflin, LA under the direction of Paradise Funeral Home in Jonesboro. 

Edward and Elon Williams
Saline, LA

williamsAfter 62 years of marriage, Clois Edward and Mary Ellon (Ayres) Williams of Saline, Louisiana, passed away together in a tragic accident in Bienville Parish on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. Edward was 82 and Ellon was 78. They loved each other very much and will be greatly missed by their family and friends. Edward and Ellon were pillars of their community and never passed up an opportunity to help others.

Edward loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing on Saline Creek. He was a very outgoing person who loved to joke and laugh. His personality was uplifting and upbeat. His favorite sport was basketball and he played on independent teams when he was younger. He was proud to tell people that he was from Readhimer, Louisiana.

Ellon was an entrepreneur. She established several businesses over the years, but she was especially proud of her flower shops which were located in Hodge and Saline. Ellon loved her family unconditionally and she was a prayer warrior for them.

Edward and Ellon are survived by their children, Scottie Wayne Williams (Connie), Janet Lanette Williams Rich (Billy), Karen Sue Williams Sullivan (Buddy); grandchildren, Christopher Wayne Williams (Natessia), Casey Nicole Williams, Wesley Cole Sullivan (Farrah), Alecia Breanne Sullivan Hattaway (Phillip), Raegan Elise Rich Garcie, William Kyle Sullivan (Allison), Sidney Alaine Rich (Ryan); great-grandchildren, Adalynn Williams, Addison Williams, Waylon Sullivan, Abigail Sullivan, Isabella Hattaway, Hannah Garcie, Preston Williams, John Hattaway, Sarah Garcie, Elijah Hattaway and Nathan Sullivan.

They were preceded in death by their grandson, Chad Edward Williams. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Clois and Izula (Hasley) Williams; siblings, Lacy Laverne (Williams) Davis and Johnny Doil Williams. Ellon was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ruth (Underwood) Ayres; her siblings, Arren Dewayne Ayres, Prentice Franklin Ayres, Peggy Ann Ayres, Thomas Edward Ayres and Tommy Glenn Ayres.

Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Briarwood Baptist Church in Readhimer, Louisiana from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The funeral will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Briarwood Baptist Church. Bro. Ken Roberts and Bro. James Lovell will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Creston under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be Lee Wise, Michael Wise, Bodee Cheatwood, Mark Babers, Billy Nelson and Jerry Brigmon, Jr.
