There are several quotes and adages about playing a team for the third time. One is that the “third time is a charm”. Another is that it is hard to beat a team three times in a row.
Neither of the above rang true for Saline in the first round of the Division V “non-select” playoffs as they fell to Georgetown 58-45, their third loss in as many weeks to their district 2C rival.
By virtue of their victory, #16 Georgetown improves to 27-15 on the year and earns a date against #1 seed, Zwolle. Saliine, which was seeded at #17 ends the year with a 20-14 overall record.
The hope for the Bobcats was that the return of point guard Gavyn Dailey, who was out with an injury for the first two contests against Georgetown, would change their fortunes. For the first three quarters it looked as it may indeed make a difference as Saline was only one point down at 46-45. For the third time in a row though, Georgetown came out and won the fourth quarter, this time by a 22-10 margin.
Eli Ferguson led the Bobcats in scoring with 12 points, followed by Dailey chipping in with 11 and Maddox Williams scoring nine. Trent Ledbetter finished with five points and JerCourtney Loyd had three. Connor Roberts and Jay Nash made two points apiece and Elijah Calloway made a free throw to round out the scoring.
