Quitman High pounded out 11 hits and stole 13 bases to run past Choudrant 13-4 on Monday in their final contest before district 1B play begins on Thursday. It was an old fashioned team effort by the Wolverines as 8 of the 10 batters got hits and all but one of the 12 that played either scored at least one run or drove one in.
By beating Choudrant for the second time in two tries this season, The Wolverines, ranked #9 in the latest Division V poll among “non-select” schools, improved to 8-6 on the year. Choudrant fell to 5-11 this season.
Logan Ponder, who was the winning pitcher after limiting Choudrant to just three hits and one earned run, scored a team best three runs and got two hits on the day as did Braden Hobbs and Jake Potts. Kace West scored twice and got the only extra base hit, stroking a double.
What was most impressive was the base running by the Wolverines, who set a new season best by stealing 13 bases, led by three from Ponder and two each by Asher Shultz, Hobbs, West and Maddox Duck.
