Millien shines for Weston at Quitman Invitational, Host squads finish 3rd & 4th

The girls and boys track teams from Quitman High School had a good day at the meet they hosted on Thursday, March 28th. Lexie Millien of Weston High School had a GREAT day! 

Millien took honors as the top female from Jackson Parish as she scored points in four events, including three podium placements. The versatile senior won the high jump, finished second in the long jump, third in the 100 meter hurdles and came in sixth place in the 200 meter dash to score all the points for WHS, who finished in 12th place overall.  

QHS proved to be a competent host of the meet that saw 15 schools from northeast Louisiana compete. The Lady Wolverines didn’t win an event but exhibited their depth by scoring in 14 of 18 events to finish in 3rd place as a team, while the boys squad rode three first place finishes, a second and three third place results to take fourth overall.

Gold medals for Quitman were Gage Horton (1600 Meters), Nathan Harvey (300M Hurdles) and LHSAA state indoor champion, Bryan “Peanut” Lay, who now has won five consecutive meets in the Pole Vault.

Five times Quitman finished in second place paced by both 4×400 meter relay teams. Also earning silver was Megan Kelley (1600M), Taylor Borland (100M Hurdles) and Lily Kate Odom (Triple Jump). Coming in third was Horton in the 800 meters and the boys 4×200 meter relay team. 

The Weston boys finished in 13th place with Nathin Wages and Juan Gonzalez earning podium placements with third place finishes in high jump and shot put respectively.

Local schools rule Quitman Junior High Meet

You wouldn’t have to look any further than the three schools in Jackson Parish to see who did the best in the 2024 Quitman Junior High Relays held on Tuesday, March 26th. Quitman, Weston and J-H Middle School finished one, two three in girls competition while QJH took second, JHMS won fourth and Weston finished in 7th place on the boys side. 

It was no contest in girls competition as QJH won first place in six events, took second in four more and rounded out the podium placements with four third place finishes to end up with 184 points, far and away better than the 77.50 scored by Weston and the 75 scored by J-HMS.

On the boys side, the Wolverines finished just two points behind Haynesville Junior High for the team total (125.50 – 123.50) with J-HMS scoring 55.50 and Weston ending with 16 points.
