Ruston Police arrested a man in connection with a double homicide that occurred at the close of 2023.

David Ray Teron Taylor, 41, of Estate Lane in Ruston, has been arrested in connection with the December 30 slaying of two men at Park Ridge Estates, a townhouse development in Ruston.

Taylor was picked up by Ruston Police Wednesday at the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on warrants for two counts of second degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Bail was set at $2.75 million.

Tracy Hampton of Arcadia and Robert Thompson of Jonesboro were both shot in the head when gunfire broke out at about midnight on Dec. 30 at Park Ridge Estates off West Alabama Avenue.

Taylor’s residence on Estate Lane is just yards from the scene of the killings.

At the time of the preliminary investigation, police said responding officers found one victim on the ground outside one of the townhouses and a second one inside an idling vehicle nearby.

Thompson and Hampton were taken to Northern Louisiana Medical Center and later airlifted to Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport. Thompson died of his wounds that day.

Hampton was initially placed on life support but passed away several days later.

Last year, the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office said Thompson was believed connected to the October homicide of Devontre “Dee” Jackson and the wounding of a second person on U. S. Highway 167 south of Quitman.

The Lincoln Parish Journal reached out to Ruston Police for additional details.
