Gladys Brown Mathews
February 27, 1937 – July 9, 2024
Gladys Faye Mathews passed away in Ruston, Louisiana on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. She was 87 years old. Gladys was a beautician for 50 plus years and operated a beauty shop at her home. She loved gardening and doing her own mowing; she was a stickler for a neat yard. Gladys also loved to crochet and she made many blankets for veterans.
Gladys is survived by her children, Dalton Mathews (Cathy), Regina Goss (Tommy), and Heath Mathews (Kelley); grandchildren, James Mathews (Lauren), Taylor Mathews (Ashlyn), Grace Forrester (Jackson), Micah Mathews; great-grandchildren, Kase Mathews, Luke Mathews, C.J. Mathews, and one on the way; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Mathews; father, John Henry Brown; mother, Rosie Lee (Higginbotham) Brown; granddaughter, Laurel Catherine Mathews; and mother-in-law, Lucille Mathews.
The funeral service was held Friday, July 12, 2024 at Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Terry Mims officiating. Burial followed in Garden of Memories near Jonesboro.
Serving as pallbearers were Dalton Mathews, Heath Mathews, Tommy Goss, James Mathews, Taylor Mathews and Micah Mathews.
Dorothy “Dot” Peterson
October 8, 1934 – July 9, 2024
Dorothy “Dot” Peterson passed away at her residence in Saline, Louisiana on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. She was 89 years old. Dot was well-known in community and took pride in being a homemaker. She and her husband, Donel raised 2 children. Dot enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Ricky Peterson (Sheri); daughter, Donna Cheatwood (Lonnie, Jr.); grandchildren, Luke Cheatwood (Michael), Josh Peterson (Christy), Kelly Peterson, and Dana Fontenot (West); great-grandchildren, Levi Cheatwood, Kylee Hay, Zoey Cheatwood, Seth Peterson, Briley Peterson, Josie Hegland, Jon-Pierre Fontenot; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Donel Peterson; father, Arthur Caskey; and mother, Lottie (Lindsey) Caskey.
The funeral service was held at Carolina Baptist Church on Friday, July 12, 2024 with Bro. Ken Roberts officiating. Burial followed in the Carolina Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home.
Serving the family as pallbearers was Scott Kidd, Greg Stephens, Ed Hurt, Klint Robinson, Danny Carr and Jubal Cheatwood. Honorary Pallbearers were Kevin Johnson, Ronnie Morris and Matt Cheatwood.
