“Big Brown” back to help Jackson Parish seniors stay cool

“Big Brown” came back!

Once is good. Two times is twice as nice!

On Saturday, James Joseph, Director of “Big Brown” Reaching Back Organization out of Baton Rouge, was in Jackson Parish helping area senior citizens battle the summer heat by installing air-conditioning window units in their homes.

This was the second visit to Jackson Parish in the past several weeks by “Big Brown”, as Joseph is called, following up to the visit he made at the end of June where he and his organization installed 25 air conditioners in Jonesboro & Hodge. This time, with the assistance of local civic leader, James Bradford, they installed air conditioners in the Chatham & Quitman area.

The distribution is part of an ongoing outreach program started by Joseph aka “Big Brown” several years ago who received the loving moniker several years ago due to his 6’9″  stature and his employment with UPS. Since, more than 24,000 needy, senior citizen home owners across the state has received keeping cool in the summer.

“It all started when I was delivering a package to an elderly couple in Lettsworth, LA,” said “Big Brown”. “It was a really hot day and they were sitting outside on their porch, as there was no air conditioning unit  in their home. It gave me the idea that something should be done to help older people from suffering in the heat so I started having fundraisers and reaching out to organizations and companies for donations.”
