A State of the Town Address was hosted by Jonesboro Mayor James “Spike” Harris at the Dr. Charles H. Garrett Community Center on January 16th to discuss the town’s progress and how they plan to move forward in 2025.
The meeting started with Mayor Harris applauding those in attendance and emphasized the importance of the citizens attending the meeting especially with the flurry of rumors that have been floated over the past several weeks.
“It’s very important that are here so they can get the truth not only from me. We have rumors and all of those things going around. People don’t understand what’s really going on, so tonight is the night to be here,” said Mayor Harris.
Assisting with the presentation of where the town truly stands financially and plans for the future were distinguished guests representatives from Bosch and Statham, CPAs and Kenneth Folden’s CPA office along with State Representative Jack McFarland, who gave an update on the legislative session and talked about funds that could potentially be available for Jackson Parish.
Some of the funding is for major infrastructure projects including a $750,000.00 sidewalk grant from the DOTD as well as over a $1 million for sewer and water-line improvements.
This is now possible as the town is now eligible to receive federal and state funding after months of dedicated work and planning by Mayor Harris, administrative staff and the Town of Jonesboro Board of Aldermen got Jonesboro back in compliance with the state.
