JHHS baseball continues school record scoring start to season

Jonesboro-Hodge beat Booker T. Washington High School out of Shreveport 17-6 on Thursday to move to 2-0 on the season. In doing so, the Tigers continued their school record scoring start by totaling 34 runs in their first two games of the season and opening with a 2-0 record for the first time since 2015.

After more than a decade as the Jonesboro-Hodge High School football team defensive coordinator, Carlos Hicks is used to seeing his team score 17 points in a game but to do so on a baseball field not only one, but twice in a row, is quite an accomplishment,  especially for a team that averaged only 4.8 runs a game last year.

The Tigers blasted BTW pitching for 20 hits led by Dakota Knox who went 4/5, including a home run and adding 4 runs scored, 4 stolen bases and two RBI. Marquis Baker (3B, 3RS, 3SB, 2RBI), Kamal Cottonham (4SB, 2RS, RBI) and John LaBlance ( 4SB, RS) all got three hits apiece while Landon Boston (4RS, 2RBI, 2 SB) and Logan Kelly (RS, RBI, SB) also rapped out two hits each. Also contributing with a hit each was Waylon Evans (2SB, RBI), Jhadarrious Bishop (2RBI, SB, RS) and Jamichael Collins (RS, SB). Baker picked up the win after striking out 11 in 5.1 innings.

JHHS, now rated #2 in the Division IV power rankings, is scheduled to host BTW again at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, March 4th and Calvin High at 5:00 pm on Thursday, March 6th.
