Jonesboro Study Guild Special Guests Speak of World War II Imprisonment

Tim Sherman (l), Shirley Wesselhoeft (r)

Hostesses for the evening, Rosemary Ewing and Glo Weaver, treated fellow members of the Jonesboro Study Guild to a wonderful program on February 24th, which featured special guests Tim Sherman and Shirley Wesselhoeft.

The topic of the meeting was the story of a young boy, Wes Wesselhoeft (American-born) and his German parents, who were removed from their home in Chicago in 1943, and placed in an internment camp in South Texas for Germans and Italians.

The story was told by Shirley Wesselhoeft, wife of Wes, as represented in a book, co-authored by Shirley and Wes, titled “Wesselhoeft-Traded to the Enemy.” The Guild was given details of the internment, and the eventual “trade” of the family back to Germany at the height of World War II.

Shirley was accompanied by Tim Sherman who began a non-profit, WALK IN MY BOOTS LLC, “to educate our veterans on how they can share with loved ones the most honorable time of their lives, their military service.”

Following the program, a short business meeting was conducted by Guild President JoAnn Teat followed by refreshments being served consisting for a delicious “King Cake”.

Guild members in attendance were: Stacey Allbritton, Jolene Carson, Mary Cryer, Rosemary Ewing, Lisa McConathy, Wilda Smith, JoAnn Teat, Marilyn Walker, Glo Weaver, and Christie Weeks along with visitors Michelle Breeding and Shirley Wesselhoeft’s next-door-neighbor, Johnnie Lou Walker.
