Quitman High School crept closer to the .500 mark on the season by winning two of three games at the Stanley tournament this Friday and Saturday. The Wolverines climbed to 5-6 on the year by beating Ebarb 13-3 and homestanding Stanley 5-4 after opening the tournament by falling to Covenant Christian Academy by a 6-1 margin.
CCA 6 Quitman 1 – The Wolverines were no-hit by a pair of CCA pitchers as Hudson Pullig scored the only run after drawing one of two walks he coaxed during the contest. Maddox Duck and Kace West also drew base on balls.

Quitman 13 Ebarb 3 – One day after being no hit, the Wolverines exploded for a season best in runs, scoring 8 in the bottom of the fifth to end the contest via the “ten run rule”. It was a total team effort that saw all but two of the ten batters score runs and all but one get at least one hit. Hudson Pullig led the offensive attack with 3 hits, including a pair of doubles, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases. Jake Potts also came up big with a pair of doubles, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored and a stolen base while Cail King got a hit, knocked in two runs and scored a run. Conner Moak stole two bases, scored a run, knocked one in and got a hit while Jayden Harts scored twice with a hit, and Tucker Newton knocked in a run, scored and hit a single. Ayden Greer also scored and got a hit while Remi Upshaw scored a run and Hunter Ayres stole a base. Kace West earned the win with four innings of shut out ball.

Quitman 5 Stanley 4 – After a lopsided loss and win, the Wolverines scored single runs in the top of the sixth and seventh innings to rally for the hard fought victory over the tournament host. Quitman tied it at 4-4 when Jake Potts reached second base on an error and courtesy runner Asher Shultz took third on a passed ball and scored on a ground out by Tucker Newton. The Wolverines won it when Maddox Duck hit a clutch two out single to score Hudson Pullig who had reached on a fielders choice. Quitman took a 1-0 lead when Potts hit a two out single to score Duck and then after trailing 2-1 regained the lead at 3-2 in the top of the fourth on runs by Newton and Ayden Greer.
