Prep Softball: Quitman High School to host “Small” Tournament on March 14-15

Fans who like to watch the softball teams from both Quitman and Weston High Schools play against other schools are in for a rare treat this coming Friday and Saturday.

Both local schools will be in action multiple times this weekend at the QHS “Small” Tourney being played on the Lady Wolverine field on the campus of Quitman High School. 

Three games are set for Friday, March 14th with Weston starting the tourney off by playing Class 5A Ruston at 4:00 pm. Quitman plays next against Rosepine at 6:00 pm followed by the Lady Wolverines taking on Class 5A Benton in the nightcap at 8:00 pm.

On Saturday, Weston takes on Rosepine at 10:00 am and plays against at 4:00 pm against Benton. Quitman plays twice on Saturday as well with their first game being against Ruston at 2:00 pm before battling against Zwolle at 6:00 pm in the final game of the tourney

Games of Monday, March 10th

Calvary Baptist 3 Quitman 0: In the battle of defending state champions and unbeatens this season, the #1 ranked Division III school, Calvary Baptist ran their record to 16-0 by snapping the Lady Wolverines, ranked #1  in Class B,  14 game winning streak over the last two years. It was solo homerun in the first and a two run “jack” in the third that was the difference in the duel between two of the states top pitchers.  Maggie Guyotte and Karley Huckaby got the only Quitman hits off of Kynzee Anderson, who struck out 15 in the contest. Cali Deal took the loss despite only allowing four hits and striking out eight. 

Choudrant 15 Weston 0: The Lady Wolves were no-hit over four innings and Choudrant erupted for multiple runs in the second, third and fourth innings thanks to five extra base hits and five WHS errors to end the game early due to the “mercy rule.” Rachel Bandy and Penelope Ferguson reached base on walks for Weston. 

Games of Tuesday, March 11th

Quitman 20 Choudrant 1: Kinsley Ponder  (2 2B, 3 RBI, RS) got four hits and Maggie Guyotte (2B, 2 RBI, RS), Cali Deal (2B, HR, 3 RS, 3 RBI) and Zoee Williams (3 RBI, 2 RS) added three hits each as Quitman erupted for 19 hits to down the Lady Aggies in five innings. Hallie Kate Pullig (RS, RBI) and Brenna Lamkin (RS, RBI) contributed to the offensive fireworks with two hits each while Karley Huckaby (4 RS) and Briley Bowers (3 RBI, 2 RS) also added a hit apiece. Breelyn Boone chipped in with two stolen bases and scored three times while Addison Fenn and Avery Watson each knocked in a run. Lamkin allowed only 3 hits and striking out 6 while giving up no earned runs for her second win of the year. 

Minden 14 Weston 4: Davynee Beardon and Penelope Ferguson doubled in the second inning to help Weston score three runs but that only cut the deficit to 6-3 before Minden plated 7 more in the third to go up 13-3 and drop the Lady Wolves to 3-3 on the season. Carlynn Waters would also smack a double for Weston while Rachel Bandy, Carly Jo Griffin and Anslee Aldy all hit a single each.
