Friday was a beautiful day for Jackson Parish 4-H to proudly team up with local forestry related partners to immerse the 5th graders of Jackson Parish in a day of learning about our local forestry industry.
Did you know that through a process that uses Jackson Parish trees to produce wood pellets, we are helping to keep homes warm around the world? Our 5th graders do now!
Those in attendance also now know how drones are used to inspect tracts of timber, and the importance of thinning and maintaining forests. More education on diseases and insects that effect our local timber, how trees age and how their rate of growth affects their later use was passed on along with the best part of all – getting the chance to get up close and personal with logging equipment.
To top it off, students enjoyed a lakeside picnic lunch of delicious hamburgers prepared by the Grilling Team from Smurfit WestRock and served by the local 4H Jr. Leaders.
Thank you to all of our partners who helped present. Jackson Parish 4-H gives thanks to all the partners ( shown below) who helped present Forestry Day 2025 and appreciates your support of our forestry program.
