Summons issued for Quitman man involved in downtown Ruston melee

One arrest has been made and a summons has been issued to a Quitman man in connection with a fight in downtown Ruston in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 5th, that left a Jackson Parish man with a broken jaw.

According to reports, Jake Elkins, age 20, of Quitman, was one of two people who had a summons issued to them for disturbing the peace, fighting, while another Homer man has been arrested on a second-degree battery charge, with still another expected to be arrested on the same charge.

Ruston Police stated that additional summonses will also be issued, and investigators have identified a 16-year-old juvenile who they believe may have been involved in the incident that left 24-year-old Jacob Hudson with a broken jaw and another man slightly hurt.

Incorrect accounts of the incident first appeared on social media on Sunday, April 6th, stating that Hudson was accosted by seven or eight people outside of Ponchatoula’s Restaurant on East Park Avenue while escorting a female to her car.

Further investigation learned that the fight actually took place in the Sexton Parking Lot, across the street from the restaurant, and there was no evidence that Hudson had escorted the female, who had left before the fight broke out, to her vehicle.
