Town of Jonesboro Board of Aldermen approve lowering water rates for churches

The Board of Aldermen for the Town of Jonesboro held their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on April 8th in the Nathaniel Zeno Jr. meeting room of the Jackson Parish Administrative Building, located at 160 Industrial Drive in Jonesboro.

Before the session, a public hearing was held where residents had the opportunity to voice their questions and concerns about a proposed Ordinance that was on the meeting agenda pertaining to adjusting church rates to residential utility rates.

After board members Nia Evans, Devin Flowers, James Ginn, Robert Hunter and Robbie Siadek took care of the standard perfunctory monthly business of approving the agenda, minutes from last meeting, and financials from January and March, the adoption of Ordinance 2025-013 was then voted on and approved.

The Ordinance was put in place to assist local churches that have no school or business operating on site, by allowing for an adjustment of utility rates from commercial rates to residential rates. it was further decreed that in order to have this instituted, a qualification form must be completed at City Hall.

Resolution 2025-008 was then passed, which declared the junk vehicles that were sold as scrap as surplus. Official condemnation of structures/buildings on 316 8th Street and 628 Talbot Street then followed leading the panel to address concerns about stray animals in the community. Department head reports, Aldermen comments and a final comment from Jonesboro Mayor James “Spike” Harris concluded the meeting.
