
Quitman High School’s defense of the state championship won last spring ended in the 2025 LHSAA quarterfinals when homestanding Hicks upended the Wolverines by a 5-3 margin.
With the loss Quitman, seeded #5 in the Class B bracket ends their season with a 15-15 record in head coach Chris Womack’s first year at the helm while #4 seed Hicks improves to 17-10 and will play top seeded Pitkin in the state semifinals.
Hicks scored three in the first and another in the second before Quitman plated two runs in the fourth inning to narrow the deficit to 4-2. Both teams scored a run in the fifth inning for the final margin.
Conner Moak got the offensive going in the top of the third by hitting a single, advanced to second on Hudson Pullg’s ground ball to short that was ruled an error, stole third base and scored when the ball got away from the third baseman with Pullig advancing all the way to third on the play. Kace West then followed perfectly executed bunt single to plate Pullig. The Wolverines narrowed the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the fifth when Pullig got hit by a pitch, advanced scored his second run of the game on back-to-back singles by Maddox Duck and Kace West, who led Quitman with two hits. Tucker Newton also chipped in with a double.
