It is something that prep athletes in northeast Louisiana dream of, as only the elite few are even ever considered for the coveted honor. What is being referred to is being named an “Aaron’s Ace”, presented each week to a top-performing athlete in northeast Louisiana each week by award-winning sports broadcaster, Aaron Dietrich, of KNOE-TV, Channel 8, out of Monroe.
For almost all, to have Dietrich come to the school, do an interview that is aired on a TV-8 sports segment, and receive the much-desired “Aaron’s Ace” t-shirt, it represents a “once-in-a-lifetime” achievement.
For Quitman High School phenom, Cali Deal, being an “Aaron’s Ace” is nothing new. Actually, it has become somewhat of a springtime ritual for Dietrich to present the LSU signee who has led QHS to back-to-back LHSAA state softball championships with the award.
“What color shirt do you want this year,” deadpanned Dietrich, while conducting her interview this past Tuesday when he came to the campus of Quitman High School to present Deal with her third “Aaron’s Ace” award in the past three years.
