QJH honored 20 athletes on Tuesday
There is no better way to end a season than by winning your last game. Even better is winning your final career game. That is what twenty 8th-grade players, cheerleaders, managers, and trainers of the Quitman Junior High boys and girls basketball teams did on Tuesday when both QJH squads beat Choudrant in the final game as a member of the junior high basketball program.
Honoring the elite group was just one of the events that took place on the festive evening, as in between games, the 2025 Quitman High School Softball team received its rings for winning a second straight state championship.
Quitman 37 Choudrant 17 (girls) – Nursing a slim 17-14 lead at the half, the Lady Wolverines stormed to a 20-3 second half advantage to completely dominate visiting Choudrant. The 4th victory in a row and 8th win in the last 9 games concluded a stellar 17-3 season for the Lady Wolverines that included taking the season series against the Lady Aggies by a 4-1 margin. Audrina Martin turned in “double-double” effort, by scoring 10 points and pulling down 11 rebounds for the second time in the last three games to match her season high. Bella Caskey also had a big game by setting a new season high with 9 points and clearing a team high 12 boards. Ella Simonelli also scored 9 points with Amelia Staggs finishing with five and Kynleigh Leach adding a pair of baskets.
