On Tuesday, the Heritage Quilt Guild (HQG) of Jonesboro once again showed their support for a family that is recovering from a devastating house fire by presenting them with a “Comfort Quilt.”
Through their continued outreach program designed to provide a sense of peace, serenity, and a reminder that someone cares, the HQG presented a “Comfort Quilt” to the local fire victims. A comfort quilt is a handmade quilt donated to provide warmth and emotional comfort to individuals facing hardship or crisis.
The “Comfort Quilt” outreach program is just one of several that the local group coordinates, including Christmas stockings for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and lap quilts for Veterans.
The local Heritage Quilt Guild, which meets each Wednesday at the Jonesboro-Hodge Methodist Church located at 402 4th Street in Jonesboro, provides a means for quilters and guild lovers to promote the appreciation and preservation of quilts.
The guild is a forum in which the skills of the quilt makers are shared, so the art will be handed down to others, and excellence in quilt-making adds to the history of the fine needlework for following generations.
