FALL BALL! Weston Turns Tables on Quitman Jr. High

Bryce Tolar was a force on the mound and at the plate to help lift Weston to a 4-0 junior high baseball victory and turn the tables on Quitman, who had beaten the Wolves on October 7th.

Combined with the 11-1 victory that Weston took over Castor earlier in the day, the Wolves improved to 6-1 on the season, while Quitman fell to 4-1 on the year, the only loss by each team coming from their Jackson Parish rival.

Tolar was in complete control of the Wolverine bats as he struck out 11 and didn’t allow a single hit over five innings of work while contributing a double, runs scored, and an RBI at the plate. Eli Henderson did the most damage offensively for the Wolves as he collected three of the six hits Weston got in the game, including a pair of triples. Also stepping up was Levi Southern, who got a hit, scored a run, and drove one in. Corbin Powell scored a run, Grant Griffin had an RBI, and Colton Otwell got a hit as well for Weston.

Weston 11 Castor 1 (Monday) – Leyton Younse, who was the winning pitcher after giving up just one hit and striking out 8 in three innings of work, and Carter Powell each hit a double and drove in three runs each and every starter for the Wolves scored at least one run as Weston cruised to the easy victory.

It was a total team effort offensively as Eli Henderson, Younse, Bryce Tolar, and Levi Southern scored two runs each, with Corbin Powell, Carter Powell, and Colton Otwell adding a run apiece.

Weston 8 Downsville Charter 0 (Monday) – Ryan Kate Wyatt and Rachel Bandy combined to strike out 11 batters and allow just one hit as both threw two innings each to lift Weston to the shutout victory. Offensively, the pair was just as important to the cause as Bandy hit a home run, drove in two, and scored a run, while Wyatt hit a double, drove in two, scored a run, and stole 3 bases.

Kate Keiffer had a big game as well with four steals and two runs scored, while Autumn Kohler (3B) and Hannah Aldy (2B) both got extra base hits, scored a run, knocked one in, and stole a base. Brooklyn Keiffer chipped in with a hit and a run scored, while Ashlyn Petre scored a run, and Cadie Conn got one of the eight hits Weston collected in the contest.

Weston 8 Saline 4 (Tuesday) – After spotting Saline a 4-0 lead after one inning, the Lady Wolves came storming back to plate four runs in each of the second and third innings to win the battle of neighboring parish schools.

Ryan Kate Wyatt, Cadie Conn, and Miriam Shuler drew walks, and both Ashlyn Petre and Kylee Ann Allen got plunked by Saline pitching to open the top of the second, setting up a run-scoring groundout by Ryleigh Puffer and a single by Hannah Aldy to tie the score.

The Lady Wolves took their first lead of the game in the top of the third when Autumn Kohler drew a walk, Brooklyn Keiffer got hit by a pitch and Wyatt hit a single to load the bases setting the stage for a run scoring on a Petre grounder that was misplayed for an error and a ground out by Conn that upped the score to 6-4. After Shuler drew a walk, Allen singled, Puffer got hit by a pitch, and Aldy, who was the winning pitcher, walked to give Weston the final four-run advantage.

Claiborne Christian 7 Quitman 0 (Tuesday) – It was one of those nights for the Quitman Junior High Softball team as nothing went right. At the plate, the Lady Wolverines managed only two hits, singles by Brelaina Hall and Elliot Savage, and in the field, Quitman committed a season high 8 errors.
