
Jackson Parish 4-Hers took part in the Louisiana State 4-H Forestry Contest on October 16th, with the team from Weston High School coming in 4th place overall, which included one team member receiving the highest score in one discipline and coming in 6th place in individual competition.

Leading the way to the tremendous showing was Nathan Pierce, who was recognized for having the highest score in Tree Identification and earned 6th place in the High Point Individual competition.
These 4-Hers were scored in Tree Identification, Insect Identification, Forestry Disease Identification, Reading Topographical Maps, Compass and Pacing Abilities, as well as Estimation of Volume of Sawlogs in LIVE Trees.
Jackson Parish 4-H gives thanks to Mr Derek Shields, Weston High School FFA, for the time and effort spent working with these young people and helping in developing skills that are essential in a forestry-based parish.
