2026 District 1B Softball Champions
Local schools won only one of six games played this past Monday and Tuesday, but that victory continues one of the most dominant stretches in local softball history. When Quitman beat Simsboro in a District 1B battle on Tuesday, it gave the Lady Wolverines their 6th consecutive district title, a first in Jackson Parish history. It also kept alive a district winning streak that goes back a little over 6 years, during which Quitman has compiled a 22-0 record, winning the last four District 1B crowns and a pair of District 2B titles before that, all under the tutelage of head coach Justin Dodson.
Prior to their district title claiming victory the Lady Wolverines, ranked #2 in Class B with a 14-9 record dropped a heartbreaking 8-7 contest to D’Arbonne Woods Charter, ranked #4 in Division III among “select” schools when DWC hit a two-out “walk-off” single to score the final of three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. The loss was a third straight, all coming against highly ranked “select” schools from higher classifications.
JHHS and Weston both went 0-2 for the two-day period, with the Lady Tigers falling 24-9 to Ringgold in District 1-1A on Monday before being run over by Red River 17-0 on Tuesday to fall to 3-13 on the season and 2-2 in district play. Weston also lost both of their games, albeit to Division I schools, as Neville took a 16-1 victory on Monday and Captain Shreve won 6-5 on Tuesday to drop the Lady Wolves’ record to 6-15 on the year with three games left to play
Quitman 16 Simsboro 6: Hallie Kate Pullig hit her second home run of the season and drove in a single game second-best total of 5 RBI to help Quitman overcome an early 5-0 deficit. Kinsley Ponder stroked a double for one of her three hits in the contest to lead the Lady Wolverines offensive attack that amassed 17 hits against Simsboro pitching. Anna Claire Leach (3 RS, 2 RBI), Maggie Guyotte (RBI), Brenna Lamkin (2 RS, 2 RBI), and Zoee Williams (RS, RBI) all added two hits each that included a triple apiece as Quitman set a new season best for most “three baggers” in a game. Avery Watson (RS, RBI) also had a pair of hits, giving QHS seven players with multiple hits in the contest. Briley Bowers (RS, 2 RBI), and Amelia Staggs (2 RS) added a hit each and Keeley Davis scored a team tying 3 runs. Guyotte got the win in relief after throwing four innings of one-hit, one-run ball.
D’Arbonne Woods 8 Quitman 7: Maggie Guyotte powered a shot over the right field fence to score Anna Claire Leach, and both Keeley Davis and London Burks crossed home plate in the first inning to stake Quitman to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. Davis would score again in the top of the fifth on an Avery Watson single to up the lead to 5-2 only to see DWC tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning in the back and forth contest. Quitman would go up 7-5 in the top of the sixth when Guyotte and Hallie Kae Pullig hit back-to-back singles and scored on a single by Brenna Lamkin.
Ringgold 24 JHHS 9: The Lady Tigers scored 8 runs in the top of the third inning to narrow the deficit to 12-9, but Ringgold scored 12 runs in the bottom of the third frame, to take the “walk-off” three-inning victory. Oddyssey Brooks and Makenly Ray scored two runs each, and Mexia Walker knocked in a pair. Sa’Tavia Qualls and Brooklyn Thompson both got a hit and scored a run, with Skyliah Dill, Ma-Riyah Jones, and Alaina Ashcraft all crossing home plate as well.
Red River 17 JHHS 0: Sa’Tavia Qualls, Haigen Fenn, and Ma-Riyah Jones all got a hit each, but Red River pummelled JHHS pitching for 16 hits that included 3 home runs, 3 triples, and a double to score 9 in the first and 8 more in the second to win in the 2 1/2 inning contest called by the “mercy rule.”
Neville 16 Weston 1: The Lady Wolves took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Carlynn Waters scored thanks to a dropped third strike and a Neville error, but a season-worst 11 miscues by Weston helped the Lady Tigers win in four innings by the “mercy rule.” Teegan Hall and Carly Jo Griffin got the two Weston hits in the contest.
Captain Shreve 6 Weston 5: Triples by Carly Jo Griffin and Carlynn Waters along with a double by Teegan Hall staked Weston to a 5-1 lead after five innings only to see Class 5A Captain Shreve tie the contest with 3 in the bottom of the sixth and one in the bottom of the seventh and then win it on a two out “walk-off” single in the bottom of the eighth inning. Hannah Aldy led Weston with 2 runs scored, with Kate Keiffer, Waters, and Aubrey Donaldson scoring once each.
