The Town of Jonesboro is proud to announce that an important financial milestone has been achieved: a legacy utility obligation totaling over $297,000.00 to Entergy has been satisfied, reflecting continued progress, accountability, and long-term stability for our community.
“While this obligation pre-dates our current administration, addressing it was a necessary step toward strengthening the Town’s financial position and ensuring the continued reliability of essential services,” said Jonesboro Mayor J. “Spike” Harris.
Appreciation for the collaborative effort that made this achievement possible was expressed by Mayor Harris, who noted that although the Town Clerk and Deputy Clerk took the lead in remaining focused on resolving the debt inherited from the previous administration, it was truly a complete team effort by the entire staff and administration members. He further acknowledged Entergy, especially Representative Arnetra King, for their professionalism and partnership throughout this process.
“While this administration did not create this obligation, it was our responsibility to resolve it,” Mayor Harris stated. “Reaching a zero balance with Entergy removes a significant burden from the Town’s budget and allows us to move forward with greater financial clarity and stability.”
“The Town of Jonesboro has experienced increased water and sewer revenues, which have enabled it to meet prior obligations while maintaining essential services,” continued Harris. “This progress reflects a broader commitment to responsible financial management and long-term planning. As Jonesboro continues to move forward, leadership remains focused on resolving longstanding matters, strengthening partnerships, and building a stable financial future for the entire community.”
