Quitman to Host Bell City in LHSAA Quarterfinals on Wednesday, April 22

Quitman High School will host Bell City at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, April 22nd, for an LHSAA quarterfinal matchup. The contest is the final leg in the “Dash for Frasch”, which is what the state softball tournament played at Frasch Sports Complex in Sulfur, LA, on May 1-2, is fondly called.

Seeded #2 in the Class B bracket, the Lady Wolverines enter the contest with a 22-9 record after receiving a first-round bye and beating  #18 Pitkin 10-0 in the regional round. Bell City, the #7 seed in the 20-team bracket, comes in with a 14-8 record after also getting a free pass in the first round before beating #10 Holden 5-2 in the second round.

Quitman 10 Pitkin 0: The Lady Wolverines won their 9th straight postseason contest over three years to move one game away from their 4th straight Class B state tournament appearance in their quest for a 3rd straight state championship. Quitman methodically picked Pitkin apart, scoring runs in every one of the five innings to close out the game via the “ten-run” rule, the sixth straight contest the Lady Wolverines have ended early. Maggie Guyotte slammed a pair of home runs to give her 16 on the season, drove in 5 runs and scored a pair. Hallie Kate Pullig (RS) and Kinsley Ponder (2 RBI) also got a pair of hits that included a double each, while Anna Claire Leach (3 RS) and Briley Bowers (2 RS) also ended up with two hits. Zoee Williamson (RS, RBI) led Quitman with 3 of the 13 total hits. Brenna Lamkin was completely dominant in the circle, limiting Pitin to just one meaningless single
