The Jackson Parish Golf Course held its first weekend tournament of the year on Saturday, April 24th, with three local “young guns” taking the 3-man Shamble championship in the event that saw 22 teams competing. In this format, team members hit a tee shot and then played their own ball from the spot of the best drive, with the best two scores on each hole counted.
Winning the tournament with a score of 123 and taking home the team payout of $1,200.00 were three recent former local high school standouts, Pete Simonelli and Eli Walker, who led Quitman High School to the 2024 LHSAA Division IV golf championship, and Tayt Culpepper of Weston High, who placed in the top ten of state competition in 2024 and is now a golfer at Southwest Mississippi Community College.
Coming in second place and earning $600.00 per team after shooting 128 were Peyton Mitchell, Ridge Creech, and Houston Fortenberry. Winning $300.00 per team was D.J. Harrell, Lance McGuire, and Dalton Gould, who finished in third place with a score of 129.
First-flight winners, who also came home with $1,200.00 per team with a score of 143, were Larry Foster, Ram Foster, and Todd Gentry. In second place were David “Snook” Harrell, Tommy Cruse, and Leigh Cathey, with Jim Colvin, Jack Colvin, and Sammy Smith coming in third place.
