Asher Shultz, the two-time defending Class B state champion in the Javelin event from Quitman High School, will sign scholarship papers to continue his track and field career with McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA, on Monday, May 11th.
The official signing will take place in the QHS gymnasium at 10:00 in front of the student body, school administration, and coaching staff, with friends and family urged to attend the gala event.
Shultz burst onto the Louisiana high school track and field scene at the 2025 Class B state meet, when he set a new personal best of 170′ 6.5″ to win the Class B title. The QHS senior followed that up by topping the 170-foot mark six times in 2026, including winning the 2026 Class B state title with a toss of 173 feet and setting a personal best of 175′ 7″ at the Class B Region 1 meet. Shultz graduates with the 4th through 10th best throws in Jackson Parish history and second all-time at Quitman High School.
