Jake Vail and Jaxon Cheatwood tremendously represented Quitman High School at the Student Angler Federation High School Bass Fishing World Championship on Cumberland Lake in Kentucky by finishing in 29th place out of 411 teams. The placement was the highest of any team from the state of Louisiana.
The pair, guided by boat captain Richie Vail, qualified by winning a Northeast Louisiana High School (NELAHS) Angler Tour event and finishing in the top ten year-end ranking. Making the remarkable achievement even more incredible was that the pair of QHS Freshmen were sitting in 129th place after a slow two days of fishing before making a huge rally on the third day, where they finished in a tie for third place out of 332 contestants in the second chance round that qualified them for a fourth day of fishing and propelled them to the eventual top 30 finish.
