In honor of the semiquincentennial anniversary (250 years) of the establishment of the United States of America, which took place on July 4th, a “Liberty Tree” has been planted on the southeast corner of the lawn of the Jackson Parish Courthouse, located at 500 Court Street in Jonesboro.

Provided by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Dr. Mike Strain, DVM, the Liberty Tree pays tribute to U.S. Military Veterans and notable American figures who were instrumental in America gaining its independence.

The 5-year initiative to plant 250 Liberty Trees across the United States by July 4, 2026, was designed to educate the public about the significance of the American Revolution and the sacrifices made in establishing the United States. Introduced by Representative Michael Bayhem of St. Bernard Parish, House Resolution #351 commends the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) for their 250th Liberty Tree Celebration and encourages Louisiana parishes to participate by planting a Liberty Tree in historically significant locations.
