Village of Chatham Council Members Update Utility Collection and Cutoff Policy

The Village of Chatham held its regularly scheduled Council meeting on Tuesday, August 11th, with members Toni Malone, Sue Proffer, and Bernadine James in attendance, along with Mayor Gregory Harris.

Following the routine business of approving the minutes of the previous meeting and paying monthly bills, the three-member panel adopted a pair of ordinances: amending the budget for fiscal year 2025-26 (Ordinance 2026.01) and approving the budget for fiscal year 2026-27 (Ordinance 2026.02).

After agreeing to enter into a contract with USIC to mark all water, sewer, and gas lines for the village, the Council approved a new-build request for Sue Henderson and authorized Mayor Harris to complete the utility cutoff list in accordance with the collection policy.

In addition, the existing collection and cutoff policies were updated to allow customers to pay until 4:00 pm on the 15th day after the 20th of the month and, if payment is not made, to cut off services on the 16th day. Approving all financial statements was the final action taken before adjournment.
