In Junior High School games played between Wednesday and Saturday, the Quitman Blue and Gold baseball teams both won to stay undefeated in “Fall Ball” play, and the Jonesboro-Hodge Softball team won their first of the season. The QJH softball team also played, winning one of three games played at the Claiborne Christian tournament. In basketball, the Jonesboro-Hodge Junior High boys team beat Ringgold 53-18 to move to 2-1.
The Jonesboro-Hodge Junior High Lady Tigers began the late-week play by Jackson Parish schools on Wednesday by beating Mansfield in a softball game for their first victory of the year, which evened their season slate to 1-1. Thursday’s play found the J-H Tigers basketball team beating Ringgold for the second time in three days to move to 2-1 this year, and the Quitman Junior High “Blue” baseball team winning their sixth straight without a loss this fall by beating Choudrant 13-9. The “Gold” team followed, winning 10-1 to improve to 5-0. On Saturday, Quitman opened the Claiborne Christian Softball Tournament by beating Choudrant 7-5, but then lost both games to the host by 7-4 and 9-5, dropping their record to 6-7-1.

JHJH 7 Mansfield 3 (Softball): With the two teams agreeing to play under the guidelines that a half inning ends after a team scores four runs and the game would be called after all 15 batters on each team has an at bat, the Lady Tigers scored 4 in the first inning and 3 in the second while holding Mansfield to no runs in the first and 3 in the second giving J-H their first victory of the season. Scoring for the Lady Tigers was Mary-Kathryn Malone, Hope Drayton, Naakyah Walker, Khaliyah Cash, Lainey Elmore, Za’Mier Jacobs, and La’Darria Thompson.

Quitman “Blue” 13 Choudrant 9 (Baseball): The Wolverine “Blue” team scored in every at-bat of the four-inning contest, extending their unbelievable streak of posting runs in an inning to 24 straight frames over 6 games, in which the Wolverines have reached “double digits” in runs scored. After spotting the Aggies a four-run lead, QJH stormed back to post 4 in both the bottom of the first and second innings, then added 2 and 3 runs over the last two frames. It was a season-best 17-hit attack that paved the way, led by an Aiden Reed (2/3, 2 RS, 3 RBI, SB) home run and doubles by Jackson Ables (2/3, 2 RS, 2 RBI), Jaxon Culpepper (2/3, 2 RS, RBI, 2 SB), and Shepard Norred (2/2, SB). Thatcher Savage (2 RS, 3 RBI, SB), Jake Moak (RBI, SB), and Ryder Pardue (2 RS, 2 SB) added two hits apiece, while Luke Davis (RS, RBI), Asher Norred (2 RBI), and Grayson Kinman (2 RS, RBI, SB) had a hit each.
Quitman “Gold” 10 Choudrant 1 (Baseball): If it weren’t for the “Blue” team’s incredible run-scoring streak in every inning that they have played this year, the talk would be about what the “Gold” team continues to do. Including the one-sided affair against Choudrant, in the last four games, all of which QJH has scored in double figures, QJH “Gold” has scored in every inning, a streak that has now reached 15 frames. Bentley Ponder went 2/3 with a home run, scored three times, and drove in a run to pace the 8-hit attack, buoyed by 8 free passes and 2 Choudrant errors. Drew Mobley, Koplen Taylor (RS, SB), and Kutter Blalock (2 RS, 2 RBI, 2 SB) added a double each, and Asher Cooper got two hits and an RBI. Sutton Vail got a hit and scored a run, and Carter Kelley, Mason Tolar, and Andrew Seymore (2 RBI) scored a run.
Jonesboro-Hodge 53, Ringgold 18 (boys basketball): Carter Sanders scored 15, and Caiden Jackson added 10, both scoring all but two of their points in the first half, when Jonesboro-Hodge raced to a 34-8 lead. Brady Malone and Graylon Hendricks pitched in with 8 points apiece, while Addarren Amos and Tyson Brown added 6 points each.

Quitman 7 Choudrant 5 (softball): the Lady Wolverines snapped a three-game losing streak by outlasting Choudrant in the opener of the Claiborne Christian tournament. Despite being limited to only a Ryleigh McCormick single, Quitman took advantage of 11 free passes – five where batters were hit by a pitch – and three Lady Aggie errors. Ellie Shultz scored twice, and Brelaina Hall, McCormick, Charlea Jones, Raegan Bell, and Abi Sullivan all scored a run each.
Claiborne Christian 7 Quitman 4 (softball): A 4-1 lead didn’t hold up as Claiborne Christian scored three in both the second and third innings. Mez’Meri Walker, Maddie Spillman, Elliot Savage, Brelaina Hall, and Reagen Bell each hit a single, and Emma Gray, Hall, Ryleigh McCormick, and Isabella Autry scored.
Claiborne Christian 9 Quitman 5 (softball): In the second game of the night against the host of the tourney, Quitman scored five in the bottom of the third to erase a 4-0 deficit, but Claiborne Christian came back to score 5 in the top of the fifth inning to win the game. The Lady Wolverines big inning began with Elliot Savage hitting a one-out single and scoring on Emma Gray’s triple. Brelaina Hall singled, Ryleigh McCormick and Isabella Autry drew consecutive walks and Charlea Jones singled in the inning as well.
