Jonesboro Mayor Leslie Thompson is sporting a “new ride” these days. Actually the Buick sedan that the Board of Aldermen approved for purchase isn’t new but it is a major improvement on what he has been forced to travel in before.
“I want to thank the town council for approving the purchase of the car for me to travel in,” said Thompson.
It just all goes to show what working together can accomplish. For months the Board of Alderman and Thompson had been at odds over the purchase or possible lease of a new vehicle for the Mayor’s office. In the budget there was a line item that allotted $30,000.00 for a vehicle but the council was reluctant to spend that money. Through negotiation by Thompson with a representative of CarTown in Monroe which specializes in quality, pre-owned vehicles, a perfect alternative was found.
“There was $30,000.00 budgeted for a vehicle but I was able to find this one for only a little over $11,000.00 which not only was a great improvement on what we had but also saved the town about $20,000.00. It was a win-win situation,” said Thompson.
