Legendary bus driver Clara Leonard turns in her keys after 34 years of service

You will be hard pressed to find another person who is loved and respected as much as her.  Now Mrs. Clara Leonard will be missed just as much. That is because after 34 years of service, this legendary bus driver at Quitman High School has turned in her keys one final time. Mr. Billy Cothran will be taking over in January.

Over the years Mrs. Leonard has driven tens of thousands of miles picking up and bringing home students safely to and from school, as well as, taking school groups and sports teams to various locations across the state.

“I tried to talk her out of it but she wants to spend time with her great grandchildren and she definitely deserves that opportunity,” said QHS Principal Billy Carter. “We have truly been blessed to have Mrs. Clara the last 34 years as she has been a tremendous asset to our community. She is such a loving person that is so caring for our kids. She will be truly missed.”
