Lady Wolves walk away with Senior Night win

Where there is a will there is a way. With Weston down by three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning it looked bleak that Taylor Chatham and Mary Catherine Hay would get to walk off the field a winner in their final regular season game at home in their high school career.

As the pair were sitting in the dugout after two outs had been made, they probably were thinking of all the wonderful fun they had thanks to the team and fans honoring them on Senior Night. If they lost to Class 2A Lakeside it wouldn’t be the end of the world. After all, you can’t have everything right?

What they didn’t know was that their young teammates wanted them to have it all and through will power, a good eye at the plate and a little luck they sent their mentors out in style.

Weston rallied for four runs after two outs for an incredible 8-7 victory that kept the Lady Wolves winning streak alive at three straight and improved the season record to 6-11. Lakeside fell to 6-15 with the heartbreaking loss.

Lainee Trosclair sandwiched walks around a Raelynn Shell grounder that scored a run. Jacie Ledford who had singled before the two walks scored on a wild pitch and then Josie Irvin reached on an error to score another run. That set up a literal “walk-off” by Lexi Barmore who took first after four balls that forced the winning run in.

It was the 8th walk coaxed by Weston who won despite getting out hit 8-6, giving up 5 earned runs compared to scoring 4 and striking out 12 times. One of the earned runs was Josie Irvin’s home run while another was from a double hit by Emma Kate McBride.

Lady Wolverines end regular season in style

By scoring 16 runs against Class 4A Evangel Christian of Shreveport the Lady Wolverines ended the regular season the way they began it. It also continued the way they have won basically every one of their victories this season. The 16-1, three inning victory improved Quitman’s record to a sterling 21-7 on the year. In 8 of those sthe Lady Wolverines score in double digits.

Eighth grader Maggie Guyotte continued her incredible streak as well that has assaulted the school and parish record books.  By hitting her 6th home run in the last five games, Guyotte ran her season total to what is believed to be a new school and Jackson Parish record 11 on the year. Without question it is the most ever by an 8th grader, maybe in the entire state.

Freshman Cali Deal had a great night as well she knocked in three runs on two hits, one which was a home run and one more than she allowed in her three innings in the circle. The victory gave the fire-balling freshman an 11-4 record and 171 K’s in just 95 innings pitched.

Maddie Kaye Brymer slapped a pair of doubles and Madeline Vail and Madison Chaplin added a double out of their two hits each. Skylar Hall stole two bases and scored twice as did Karley Huckaby and Marley Bell in the contest that saw 12 of the 13 girls on the roster cross home plate.
